“Christmas is in the air – it smells like cinnamon and panic!”

Don’t flap over the fairy lights or get your tinsel in a tangle this festive season. Yes, the presents, food shopping, travel plans and additional extended family time can push even the most calm and resourceful of us into a mild fright, but Christmas really is supposed to be about family and fun. Let’s try to be mindful of the waste, stress and pressure to buy, buy, buy. We certainly should take a moment to reflect on what we might be willing to exchange or change for a more eco celebration but let’s also take a moment to reflect on the positive steps we have taken to becoming greener beings over the course of the year.

Inspired by the bright and brilliant colours of The Rubbish Whisperer’s biodegradable straws we have seven super cocktails to help make your festive week sparkle. So, raise a glass with us – here is to an even cleaner, greener 2018!

The 7 Cocktails of Christmas:

Fuzzy Navel (when the thought of turkey and all the trimmings seems too much)

1 part peach schnapps to 2 parts orange juice, serve on ice with a slice of citrus to garnish.

Americano (when caffeine isn’t hitting the mark)

Equal parts Campari and Red Vermouth served over ice , topped with soda water and slices of lime and orange.

Dark N Stormy (when you miss the last date for Christmas post)

1 part dark rum to 2 parts ginger beer, served with slices of lime on ice.

Greyhound (for when you feel like you are chasing your tail)

Mix 1 part gin to 4 parts grapefruit juice and serve over ice with a wedge of lemon to garnish.

Rossini (when you are seeing red over the excessive expenditure)

Blend 4 -6 strawberries and a dash of lemon juice strain and pour onto ice, top up with sparkling wine.

Spritz Veneziano (when you find yourself wondering if Christmas in Italy is easier)

1 part Aperol to 2 parts sparkling wine, serve over ice and top up with soda water, garnish with a slice of orange.

Malibu Perky (when the piles of presents need to be wrapped and you need the ultimate pick-me-up)

Blend 2 parts vodka and brewed coffee, 1 part Malibu, cream (to taste) and a handful of ice.
